April 13, 1868
Mountain City Church began on April 13, 1868, when a group of Welsh miners living and working around Frostburg felt called to plant a church. Led by their first pastor, Rev. Lewis Llewellyn, their vision was simple but profound: to see lives transformed by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Nearly 150 years later, that same vision still shapes who we are.
In August 2009, we welcomed Pastor Thomas Winborn as our lead pastor, praying that God would use him to help us rediscover a gospel-centered, mission-driven identity—making disciples who make disciples for God’s glory. God faithfully answered those prayers. During this season, our church grew in its conviction that the gospel changes everything, including us.
When the Lord eventually called Thomas to pastor a church in his hometown, God had already prepared our next leader. In October 2018, our longtime community pastor, Joe Saweikis, stepped into the role of lead pastor. As part of finalizing a renewed season of revitalization, our members voted to adopt a new name—Mountain City Church—to better reflect the community we serve.
Today...
In 2022, the church called one of its own members, Marty Jellison, to serve as an associate pastor. Today, Pastors Joe and Marty, together with elders Sam Lepley, Matt Radcliffe, Blake Olenick, and Tim Warner, continue to lead our church toward a vision of Christ-centered community.
We would love for you to join us soon. Come experience the power of God with us as He shapes us into the people He created us to be.
Our story is still unfolding—and we can’t wait to share it with you.
